Goalkeeper transfer talk is at the centre of your Thursday Championship round-up, featuring Charlton Athletic and Millwall.

Charlton Athletic are reported to have been offered the chance to sign West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski as a free agent this summer.

That’s according to journalist Richard Cawley, with the veteran shot-stopper leaving the London Stadium after seven years with the club. A club statement in May read: “West Ham United can confirm that Aaron Cresswell, Łukasz Fabiański, Vladimír Coufal and Danny Ings will leave the Club when their contracts expire at the end of the 2024/25 season.

“The four members of our 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League-winning squad all played their part in one of the most successful periods in West Ham United’s history, and will depart having made a combined total of more than 800 first-team appearances between them.

“Fabiański, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday, achieved the same feat, winning the Hammer of the Year award in 2019 after joining from Swansea City the previous summer. The Polish international goalkeeper has played 215 times so far in his seven seasons at the Club.”

The 40-year-old is expected to want to keep playing in the UK, having made 14 appearances in the Premier League last term. It’s claimed that the goalkeeper wants to stay in London and that Charlton Athletic were approached to see if they may be interested after promotion to the Championship.

However, the Addicks are thought to have turned down any potential offer with Nathan Jones instead looking to add a younger goalkeeper to his squad alongside Will Mannion and Ashley Maynard-Brewer. Charlton Athletic are instead are set to make a move for 17-year-old Australian goalkeeper Sonny Inzalaco.

Millwall boost in pursuit of Aston Villa goalkeeper

Meanwhile, Millwall have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Aston Villa goalkeeper Filip Marschall. The 22-year-old was reportedly the centre of a transfer race between the Lions, Norwich City and Preston North End but the Lancashire Post claims that the Canaries have given up the chase.

Norwich City have already signed former Blackpool goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw and are expected to add Louie Moulden to their squad upon his contract’s expiry at Crystal Palace too. That’s one team fewer for Millwall to compete with.

The Lions are in need of reinforcements between the sticks before the start of the Championship season. Liam Roberts has left the club to join Mansfield Town and first-choice Lukas Jensen is set to miss a ‘fair chunk’ of matches at the start of the campaign with an Achilles injury.
