Grizzlies key player charged with reckless driving

Grizzlies center Zach Edey was cited for reckless driving after being caught going 101 mph in a 55 zone, with a court hearing set for Monday in Indiana.

Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey was pulled over by Indiana State Police on May 1 after driving 101 mph in a 55 mph zone on Indiana State Road 25 in southern Tippecanoe County.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a trooper spotted Edey's northbound Kia Sorento speeding past his patrol car around 7:03 p.m. The officer caught up to the vehicle and came to a stop.

Edey, 23, told police he was attempting to pass another vehicle when he accelerated.

He now faces a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving, and his initial court appearance is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday (June 23) in Tippecanoe Superior Court 6.

The former Purdue standout was selected ninth overall in the 2024 NBA Draft and recently wrapped up a strong rookie season with the Grizzlies.

He averaged 9.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks over 66 games, including 55 starts, and earned a spot on the 2025 NBA All-Rookie First Team.
