While the move could have shaken some of the team's star players, LeBron James appears to be at ease with the transition.

According to Joe Vardon, Mike Vorkunov, Fabian Ardaya, and Andy McCullough of The Athletic, LeBron—now 40 years old and entering his 23rd NBA season—is "comfortable with the sale," despite being near the end of his legendary career.

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne added key details, reporting that Jeanie Buss will remain in charge of the team.

As part of the sale agreement, Buss will continue as the Lakers' governor and is expected to run the organization for at least several more years. Walter reportedly fully supports this plan.

James is expected to opt into his $54 million player option and return to the LA Lakers for the 2025–26 season. It would be his 23rd year in the league, setting a new record for most seasons played in NBA history.

Despite his age, LeBron continues to perform at an elite level. In the 2024–25 season, he was named to the All-NBA Second Team, becoming the oldest player ever to receive the honor. He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists over 70 games.

The Buss family has owned the Lakers since 1979.
