Young Liverpool midfielder James Balagizi is currently on trial with an unexpected European side ahead of a possible summer move.
James Balagizi Trains with Swedish Side Amid Liverpool Exit Talks
James Balagizi’s move away from Liverpool is looking a tap closer. The 21-year-old is getting training with Swedish side Osters IF. He will not be amongst the 15 academy players due to be out of contract this summer. The Reds will allow the midfielder to leave.
Balagizi was considered one to watch under Jurgen Klopp. But, injuries and lack of first-team games have held him back. He only made 6 appearances in the U21s during the 2024/25 season. With his representatives out purse for options, he has joined Osters IF for their pre-season training. He is in line to play in a friendly against Goteborg shortly. The club would consider whether they would like to take the mid-fielder on.
Fresh Start in Sweden Could Revive James Career
Although Osters IF may seem an unusual choice, it could give Balagizi the regular senior football he has lacked. Liverpool are not likely to prevent his exit. They will probably approve a free or a low-fee transfer. That is due to the player’s injuries and lack of game time over the recent years.
The midfielder nearly made the Reds first team in 2021 but was injured in his arm. His career has not picked up since. He has been a bench warmer for cup games. At Osters, he’ll find a familiar connection in head coach Martin Foyston. He is an Englishman who understands the English football system well.
The switch could offer the game time and fresh environment Balagizi needs to get his career back on track. As Liverpool prepare for changes at the academy level, more youngsters like Balagizi are expected to move on this summer.
