Ethan Nwaneri reveals who he genuinely thinks is the best academy player at Arsenal right now

Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri is currently away at the U21 Championships attempting to retain England’s crown.

Ethan Nwaneri has started England’s last two games at the tournament, including 64 minutes in a defeat to Germany on Wednesday evening.

England used Nwaneri in a new position last weekend, demonstrating the youngster’s versatility for Arsenal moving forward.

And as Mikel Arteta looks to use the Hale End academy more often, there’s certainly a huge amount of talent raring to go.

In fact, Arsenal have just given Myles Lewis-Skelly a new contract — a deal that breaks a club record.

But with Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly both now considered first team players, there’s space for the next generation of youngsters to begin to make their own name.

And when it comes to generational talents, 15-year-old Max Dowman seems more than ready to follow in the pair’s footsteps.

That being said, Nwaneri was recently asked by ‘The England Pod’ who he thought was the best English academy talent at the club right now.

And without much hesitation, Nwaneri replied saying, “Max Dowman” — an answer which shouldn’t surprise anyone who’s watched Arsenal’s academy sides of late.

Despite only being 15, Arsenal are putting plans in place for Dowman next season, who will be eligible to make his first team debut.

There’s already been so much talk about the youngster’s potential, Joe Cole is getting excited about Dowman for example — his reputation is extraordinary considering his age.

But Arsenal and Arteta will be fully aware that it’s their responsibility to ensure that the hype doesn’t become too much for the young midfielder.

Mikel Arteta plans to include Max Dowman in Arsenal’s pre-season

Speaking towards the end of last month, Arsenal boss Arteta actually confirmed that Dowman would travel with the club in pre-season.

Arsenal are heading to Singapore and Hong Kong to face the likes of AC Milan, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

And Arteta confirmed that Dowman should be involved, as well as another exciting Arsenal youngster.

He said: “I think Max, probably, will be in and around the pre-season.

“Obviously he’s got a very busy schedule as well in the summer, because he is in a tournament at the moment and he’s going to need some rest.

“And we will pick another few from the academy as well to be in and around the team and hopefully get a nice, beautiful surprise again.”
