Sixers may lose beloved French forward in offseason

The 76ers are expected to struggle to re-sign their forward Guerschon Yabusele due to luxury tax concerns and rising free agency interest.

The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to face a tough challenge in re-signing Guerschon Yabusele, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer.

Their sources say the Sixers are likely to operate near — or even above — the second apron for the upcoming season, as they prepare to give Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey another chance to compete for a championship.

The trio played just 15 games together in the 2024–25 campaign, finishing with a 7–8 record.

"With a trio of Sixers veterans — Kelly Oubre Jr., Andre Drummond, and Eric Gordon — all expected to soon activate the player options in their respective contracts for next season, it looks as though it will be increasingly challenging for Philadelphia to re-sign beloved big man Guerschon Yabusele," Stein and Fischer reported.

"The former first-round pick from France, who played last season on a minimum deal, is projected to have a strong market in free agency."

Yabusele returned to the NBA in August 2024 after a successful stint in Europe, which included a EuroLeague title with Real Madrid.

His signing followed a standout performance at the Paris Olympics, where he averaged 19.6 points per game and helped lead France to a silver medal.

In the 2024–25 NBA season, Yabusele averaged 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, while shooting an efficient 50.1% from the field and 38.0% from three.

Now 29 years old, he previously played in the NBA with the Boston Celtics from 2017 to 2019.
