Reports have previously claimed that AC Milan would attempt a repeat of Sandro Tonali’s exit this summer. However, this will not be the case, it seems.
When Tonali left, Tijjani Reijnders joined, as did Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Yunus Musah. Now, all three could feasibly be at new clubs – the Dutchman has already gone, whilst interest is present in the other two.
It is the first name that requires focusing on, though, as this sale could push a midfield rebuild with a different strategy.
New backbone
The first target of note is Granit Xhaka – obviously avoiding Luka Modric – and Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) states that the Swissman is beginning to ‘pressure’ Leverkusen in an attempt to move to Milan.
The new course for the Rossoneri is attractive, and he would like to leave Germany. With the prospect of starting again with a rebuild to contribute to appealing to him. Igli Tare has already travelled to speak with the former German Champions, and a €10 million offer is on the table.
Reijnders’ replacement
Following him, the club want a ‘deputy for Reijnders’ and whilst Xhaka would add to the solidity, there needs to be some more sparks. Someone ready to provide goals, just like the Dutchman did last season.
At present, Javi Guerra represents that. So, the Diavolo are in constant communication with the Spanish outfit, and things are certainly progressing with the summer in its early stages. A €25m bid will be required, but the ceiling is much higher.
