Manchester United are set for a financial boost after it’s been confirmed some of their players will be leaving the club this summer.

Man United announced on 9 June Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof will leave Old Trafford when their contracts expire on 30 June.

The trio were largely fringe players in the latest campaign as Ruben Amorim’s side finished 15th in the Premier League table and lost in the Europa League final to Tottenham.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider United will benefit from their departures as they will have been on good money.

The Manchester giants posted a club-record revenue of £661.8million in 2023-24, while their wage bill stood at £365million.

United tightened their projected revenue guidance for 2024-25 to £660-670million after recently releasing their results up until the end of March.

Man United told to get rid of three ‘massive’ earners

Borson insisted United now need to get rid of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony due to their “massive” wages.

He told Football Insider: “Clearly, the key thing in terms of making Manchester United more profitable is reducing the wage bill of the first team.

“That’s about getting rid of those players who are now surplus to requirements.

“We know who those players are. Rashford, Antony and Sancho, these sorts of guys are on massive money.

“On top of that, they will have the benefit after 30 June of Eriksen and Lindelof leaving.

“These sorts of guys are on good money as well and are now out of contract.

“The fundamentals of United’s results are they haven’t materially changed.

“They are going through a period where they’re clearly cutting costs, and that will make them more profitable if you exclude the initial exceptional cost of implementing that change.”

Tottenham could hijack Man United’s Bryan Mbeumo deal

In terms of a potential transfer blow, Football Insider revealed on 13 June Tottenham could hijack United’s move to sign Bryan Mbeumo following Thomas Frank’s appointment as manager.

Frank’s arrival has added to the belief that Spurs could secure the Brentford star’s signature despite him previously preferring a move to Old Trafford.

Tottenham could be boosted by their Champions League qualification, while United have no European football to offer the Cameroon international for next season.
