'Brilliant' Liverpool player quietly gave a big update on his future at Anfield and nobody noticed - opinion

Kostas Tsimikas has been one of the many Liverpool players rumoured to be headed for an Anfield exit this summer.

The 2025-26 summer transfer window is set to be one full of change for Arne Slot’s men, with a whole host of new players being linked with the club.

Some have already completed their moves, and others, such as Florian Wirtz, are likely to be announced over the next week or so.

Slot’s men were one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League last term, but to stay competitive, changes will have to be made.

Hence why fans will have likely heard exit rumours about almost every player at the club.

Kostas Tsimikas is “happy” being a back-up at Liverpool

Since the Greek Scouser’s arrival at Anfield, he’s always been Andy Robertson’s number two.

And, despite always being the second choice at Liverpool, he’s never kicked up a fuss or even thrown a paddy, stating that he wants to exit.

In fact, Michael Owen even dubbed Tsimikas “brilliant” thanks to his performance against Crystal Palace last season.

And now, in an interview with Greek outlet Sport24, Tsimikas has opened up on where he sees his future heading.

“I’m happy here, for five years I’ve always been happy with these players I had next to me and with the jersey I wore,” he said.

“It’s very difficult to reach such a level, to play in 27 games in one season in a Liverpool shirt.

“If you think about it, not all players play 50 games, others play 50, others play 10, others play five.

“I think 27 games I’ve played on average over the last four years is a good number.

“I would definitely like to play more, but from then on in this league, with this team I was always happy and I always gave my best, so I was ok with the games I played.”

Liverpool should try and sell Andy Robertson on rather than Kostas Tsimikas

One of football’s worst-kept secrets at the moment is that Milos Kerkez is set to make the move to Anfield.

The left-back has been linked with Liverpool for some time now after having a breakout season for Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth throughout the 2024-25 campaign.

The Hungarian international is quick on the ball, has a keen eye for goal and has put up some decent assist numbers.

However, his arrival means that one of Tsimikas or Robertson will have to depart.

Most fans have expected the Greek international to be the one to leave, but over the last few days, Robertson has become of interest to Atletico Madrid.

On paper, Slot getting rid of the Scotsman wouldn’t make much sense, but since he only has one year left on his contract, this summer will be the last time they will be able to get any money for him.

He’s also on more than double the wages of Tsimikas, so in the long run, it would help them save even more money, hence why Robertson should be the one to leave rather than the Greek Scouser.

Of course, things can change overnight in football, but with the way things are headed, Robertson feels like the more likely of the two to leave Merseyside this summer.
