Man Utd could land another impressive signing in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have reportedly been handed a massive boost in pursuing a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Ruben Amorim would like to refresh his options in goal, though he acknowledges that other positions will have to take priority at this rebuild stage.

It is understood United are more likely to sign a replacement for back-up option Altay Bayindir, rather than push for a first-choice to replace Andre Onana. It doesn't mean they won't consider their options, though, and they could be tempted to change those plans if the right opportunity arises.

Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez could be the exception. Amorim has a preference to sign Premier League-proven players and might find it hard to resist an offer for the Argentine shot-stopper if he is available for transfer this summer. It has even been suggested Martinez has made it clear he is open to an Old Trafford move as he looks for the next step in his career.

Emi Martinez 'willing to join' this summer

A report from GIVEMESPORT claims Emiliano Martinez has made it clear he is interested in a summer move to Manchester United. It is suggested the 32-year-old has offered himself to Ruben Amorim's side and would like to explore his opportunities in the current transfer window.

Aston Villa would like to keep hold of their star goalkeeper, though they have refused to rule out a sale amid fears they could breach the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules if they do not sanction a big exit this summer. The report also claims Martinez is not put off by United's failure to qualify for the Champions League and that it could take a bid in the region of £40 million to sign the World Cup winner. They add that Atletico Madrid and various Saudi Arabian clubs are also keeping tabs on Martinez, should he be made available for transfer.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery labelled Martinez “the best goalkeeper in the world” after his penalty save helped his side to a 3-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage last season. “Emiliano Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world," he said. "We need him in moments like today. I was sitting and I was dreaming of the save he did.”

United are set to announce a new one-year deal for third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton as they look for some stability in the goalkeeper department amid doubts over both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. Martinez is suspended for the opening match of next season after he was sent off during United’s victory over Villa on the final day of the campaign.
