The summer transfer window reopened on Monday after a short break for the Club World Cup and will now run until 7pm on 1st September.
After setbacks in our attempts to sign Liam Delap and Bryan Mbeumo, the likes of Joao Pedro, James Trafford and Anthony Elanga appear to be the three deals we’re most actively pursuing, so the media say, at least.
We have been told to watch our for surprise overseas arrivals done on the down low and another player in that bracket has been linked over the past 24 hours…
According to a new report, Newcastle United are showing interest in Palmeiras star Richard Rios.
This comes from [Eduardo Burgos,](https://x.com/edu17burgos/status/1935340301607948560) a South American journalist for Diairo AS, who claims that Newcastle are big admirers of the 25-year-old tipped to land a big move in Europe over the last few windows.
Burgos claims that Spurs, Crystal Palace and La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are also keen, stating that Newcastle “really like” the all-action midfielder who could cost around £18m
Writing on X, he said: “Richard Ríos has several suitors in Europe, especially in the Premier League.
“Tottenham, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle really like him, as do Atlético Madrid. Palmeiras is neither in a hurry nor in a need to sell. The price will be around $20-25 million (£15-18m), at least.”
The priorities this summer seem to be a right winger, centre-back, versatile forward and goalkeeper, but our case for a new midfielder could be strong soon enough.
Sean Longstaff is likely to depart now his deal expires in 12 months, while Joe Willock has been tipped to leave with Fulham and Crystal Palace thought to be keen.
Lewis Miley needs games this coming season, but he’s had plenty of injury issues in the last 18 months, while Joelinton is in a similar bracket having missed 27 games over last two league seasons.
If a price of around £18m is true – I suspect they may want more – then Rios could be a very handy replacement for Longstaff, although there is a very big difference between Newcastle ‘liking’ a player and actually trying to sign them!
