Ethan Nwaneri played 62 minutes as England U21 lost 2-1 to Germany but still progressed to the quarter-finals of Euro U21 in Slovakia.

Ethan, [who has been nominated for PFA Young Player of the Year](https://www.arsenal.com/news/mls-nwaneri-pfa-young-player-year-list), showed bright moments in the first half and almost provided an assist, but Jarell Quansah was denied by a goal-saving clearance from Tim Oermann.

Ansgar Knauff and Nelson Weiper scored the goals for Germany in the first half with Alex Scott netting for the Young Lions on 76 minutes. Ethan was replaced with 28 minutes remaining by Tom Fellows.

The result means Lee Carsley's side qualify in second place from Group B on four points and will face Spain, who they defeated in the 2023 final, in the last eight this Saturday.
