Naomi Girma and Ashley Lawrence called up

Naomi Girma and Ashley Lawrence have been called up to represent the USA and Canada respectively during the second of June's international windows.

USA manager and former Chelsea head coach Emma Hayes announced she would give her European-based players a rest during this summer international window, but Girma is the exception, as the centre-back was keen to feature as she continues to build form and fitness after returning from injury in March.

Girma made her first appearances for her country since her comeback in late May and early June, featuring in every minute of comfortable friendly wins over China and Jamaica, and has been selected again for a trio of home games. They face the Republic of Ireland in back-to-back matches on 26 and 29 June, before taking on neighbours Canada on 2 July.

Those final opponents could well include Lawrence, after the Blues full-back was called up by Canada. She returns to the squad after missing their pair of wins over Haiti earlier in the summer. They next host Costa Rica in Toronto on 27 June, before that match against the USA in Washington, DC.
