'I called him': National team manager makes point about Liverpool star after claims he's about to leave

Liverpool are going through a summer of change at the moment with many players being linked with Anfield exits already.

Some players, such as Jeremie Frimpong, have already made their moves official, with others, such as Milos Kerkez, just waiting for the final few details to be ironed over.

Liverpool will be on the hunt for the Premier League title again next season, and the only way for them to do that will be by bringing in some new faces to bolster their ranks.

And as mentioned, due to the players that are already coming in, Liverpool will have to sell a few members of their first-team squad in order to balance their books.

One of the many Liverpool players who has been rumoured to be on their way out of Anfield is Federico Chiesa.

The attacker was brought in last summer as a backup to Mohamed Salah, and even though he played the odd game here and there, his impact went relatively unnoticed.

Due to his lack of appearances for Liverpool, it has meant that Gennaro Gattuso has overlooked him for his international squad, with the Italian saying the following:

“I called Federico Chiesa,” he said in quotes summarised by Gianluca Di Marzio.

“I told him that he has to find a way to play consistently; the doors of the national team are open.”

Federico Chiesa may have played his last game for Liverpool

Chiesa is 27 years old, and although a lot of Liverpool fans have become quite fond of him over the last season or so, now is not the time in his career for him not to be playing.

The attacker cost Liverpool pennies compared to the transfer fees you see these days, but in the grand scheme of things, his arrival has failed to have the impact on the team he was expected to.

Several clubs, such as AC Milan and Napoli, have been linked with an interest in Chiesa over the last few weeks, and while the Italian hasn’t yet chosen what to do with his future, it feels like a choice has been made for him.

That is, if he wants to play for his country, of course.

This summer, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Chiesa have been the three players touted as the most likely to exit Anfield, with the potential for all three to have left by the time the 2025-26 Premier League season kicks off.

At the end of the day, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but at the moment, it feels like there’s no future for the Italian at Anfield.
