Mohammed Kudus’ future looks set to be one of the major stories of West Ham’s summer transfer window.

The Hammers are facing major concerns over their PSR situation, and the sale of a key player is expected to provide the remedy for that.

Kudus is a likely candidate for that sale, with the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle already having made their interest clear in the Ghanaian attacker.

The 24-year-old was excellent in his first season at the London Stadium, but his performances last term were indicative of a side which badly struggled to find any sort of form and rhythm throughout the campaign.

West Ham prepared to accept a bid lower than Kudus’ release clause

Graham Potter will certainly need to revamp the squad after such a disappointing season for the club last time out.

The Hammers laboured to a 14th placed finish, and could easily have been dragged into a relegation battle in the latter stages of the season, had the bottom three been stronger.

Potter was unable to properly address the issues instilled by Julen Lopetegui’s disastrous reign, and the former Chelsea and Brighton boss will be keen to stamp his authority on the squad as he prepares to lead them into the upcoming campaign.

Kudus would have been a key part of his plans, but with the club’s PSR concerns looming, it seems inevitable that the forward his exit E20.

Tottenham are the latest to have shown an interest in the ex-Ajax man, with Daniel Levy understood to have made an enquiry about Kudus, according to ExWHUEmployee (19 June).

“The club are reluctant to sell and at the moment the enquiries, that Spurs have made are thought to be around £50million, are not near what West Ham would deem an acceptable amount,” the source stated.

“The release clause is thought to be around £85m but West Ham may consider slightly less. The hope is that a bidding war erupts between the interested parties and drives the figure up close to the £85m mark. This would then be accepted with much needed money going into the depleted funds.”

West Ham need to drive the price up for Kudus

It is imperative that West Ham try and drive the price up for Kudus, given that he was a fairly expensive outlay at £38million back in 2023.

While Tottenham’s current approach of £50m is certainly a lucrative one, the Hammers really need more from the sale if they are to alleviate their financial concerns.

If they could secure a deal in the region of £70m or above, that would provide the PSR gain that the club are desiring, even if it means compromising over his release clause a little.

However, if West Ham are unable to attract a bid of that magnitude for Kudus, then they may be better served turning their attention elsewhere in the squad to find a candidate to sell.
