Fosun can prove 'penny drop' theory right by breaking the bank for 'elite' £34m Wolves target - …

Wolves are entering a new chapter under the guidance of Vitor Pereira as they aim to stop being the perennial Premier League strugglers.

In a surprise move made by the club, Matt Hobbs was axed from his role as sporting director, with Domenico Teti becoming the club’s new technical director.

Teti worked under Vitor Pereira during his time at Al Shabab, and the duo will fuse their knowledge together in an attempt to bring exciting targets to the football club.

Fosun are used to operating with a self-sustaining model, which includes selling their best players without investing money into the playing squad.

But it was revealed by journalist Johnny Phillips that the ‘penny has dropped’ at Molineux, and the Wolves owners accept that investment is needed for the football club to progress.

Wolves target Evann Guessand is available for £34 million

Following Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million exit to Manchester City and Rayan Ait-Nouri joining Manchester City for around £40 million, Wolves have money to play with this summer and are already putting it to use.

Wolves are closing in on the signing of Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo after the fleet-footed winger passed his medical on Wednesday.

Lopez is one of two number 10s Pereira is potentially looking to sign, and OGC Nice forward Evann Guessand is the other.

Wolves have considered Guessand as a replacement for Cunha and reportedly made a first offer for the 23-year-old last week.

Jose Mourinho even had a Zoom call with Guessand in an attempt to sell him a move to Fenerbache, but according to French outlet L’Equipe, the Ivory Coast star has no interest in moving to Turkey, instead preferring a transfer to the Premier League or the Bundesliga.

With many clubs interested in his signature, Nice have driven up the price of their forward, with the report claiming their asking price is now at €40 million (£34 million).

That is a lot to pay for someone unproven in the top flight, though finding a replacement for Cunha won’t be cheap, and Guessand is arguably the perfect successor to the Brazilian.

Why Wolves must break the bank for Guessand

If the penny has dropped at Wolves and Fosun is willing to splash the cash, surely they must break the bank to sign the powerful Nice attacker.

Guessand is more creative than Cunha, who beat his tally of six assists in 2024/25 with 10 alongside an impressive 13 goals in all competitions.

More importantly, the ‘elite’ Guessand also works harder than Cunha and is someone willing to press from the front in Pereira’s system.

With Jorgen Strand Larsen leading the line and the Ivory Coast international running off him, Wolves can form a devastating attacking duo that most defences would fear.

Over to you, Fosun.
