Liverpool will want to retain their Premier League title next season, with Arne Slot looking to also add the Champions League to his trophy cabinet.
The Anfield outfit are already well on their way to bolstering their ranks for next season with players such as Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez on the cusp of completing their moves.
These are two areas of the pitch where Slot needed reinforcements, especially with their title rivals all bolstering their ranks in one way or another.
Liverpool’s number nine is another area that could do with some improvements, especially with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez both seeming to be on their way out of Anfield at some point soon.

Many strikers have been linked with Liverpool over the last few weeks; however, there is one who seems to be their main target, with the rumours refusing to die down.
Liverpool could be a step closer to signing Alexander Isak as Newcastle are in talks with Joao Pedro
As with most Premier League teams this summer, everyone is looking for the next Erling Haaland to take their attack to the next level.
Indeed, most clubs have one or two strikers at their disposal, but no matter what happens, players such as Haaland always come out on top.
In Liverpool’s case, due to the club record fee they’re about to spend on Wirtz, they’ll have to sell some players before they’re able to make any more additions.

Despite this, rumours around Alexander Isak’s future have persisted, with Liverpool seeing the Sweden international as their dream target.
And, as per a report from Fabrizio Romano via his personal X account, it seems like the Reds could be a step closer to securing his services.
“Chelsea seriously consider João Pedro in their list while Newcastle are in active talks,” he wrote.

Why Newcastle being in ‘active talks’ with Joao Pedro moves Alexander Isak closer to Liverpool
At the moment, Newcastle have Isak and Calum Wilson at their disposal to lead their attacking line.
On his day, Wilson can be a fine player, but due to his injury history, it’s not hard to understand why the Magpies would want to bring in a new striker.
However, since Joao Pedro is one of Fabian Hurzeler’s first names on the teamsheet, it’s unlikely that he’d choose to make a move to a team where he isn’t the first-choice striker, even if they’re competing in the Champions League.

So, when this is taken into account, it almost feels like Eddie Howe is preparing for life without Isak.
Both strikers have similar styles of play, and although Pedro has had his own problems with injuries, the fact that he’s much younger than Wilson and has a lot of potential to fulfil means that he’s worth the risk.
Of course, only time will tell what the future holds, but on the face of things, this feels like nothing but good news for Liverpool.
