**Creative Genoa defender emerges as top target with Emerson set to depart**
**West Ham** are reportedly among several clubs tracking Genoa’s Aaron Martin Caricol, with [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-west-ham-set-sights-on-signing-aaron-martin/) describing the Spanish left-back as an “assist king”—and it’s hard to argue with that label.
Martin notched up eight assists in 36 Serie A appearances last season, marking him out as one of Europe’s most productive full-backs. And with Emerson heading for the exit, the interest from the Irons suddenly makes a lot more sense.
This isn’t the first time West Ham have been linked with Martin. In fact, [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/category/news/) flagged him up last month—but now the Emerson situation has escalated, this rumour has gained traction. Martin’s attacking style and proven record in top leagues across Spain, Germany, and now Italy, make him an appealing option as Graham Potter rebuilds his defence.
As we covered earlier today, there are links with the Hammers and Caricol’s teammate, Koni De Winter. Therefore it’s highly unlikely Genoa’s had coach Patrick Viera will be keen to see his defence decimated.
28-year-old Martin has just over a year left on his Genoa deal and could be available for a reasonable fee—especially as the club finished a modest 13th in Serie A. With Aaron Cresswell also having left, West Ham’s need for a reliable, forward-thinking left-back has become urgent.
Whether or not the Hammers can beat competition from elsewhere remains to be seen—but Martin ticks a lot of boxes.
