A consortium seeking to complete a takeover of Sevilla is looking to bring Monchi back to the club.
The Spanish transfer guru has been working at Aston Villa for two years after leaving Sevilla for the second time in his career.
A group called La Tercera Vía - which translates to The Third Way - is aiming to take control of the club and restore its fortunes following a disastrous campaign.
Sevilla finished 17th in La Liga, narrowly avoiding relegation by just one point after losing 17 matches.
Antonio Lappí and Fede Quintero, key members of La Tercera Vía, are now pushing to finalise the takeover.
Quintero has spoken publicly about his desire to bring Monchi back to Spain.
"Only one thing has changed to make the model fail,” Quintero said on the Entre Pérdidas y Ganancias podcast. “The data is there. There’s a person who went to Rome for two years and is now in Birmingham.
“This is someone who brought a different way of working that led to global success. Sevilla has achieved far more than its resources should have allowed.
“These successes have everything to do with Monchi. He’s the most important person in the club’s history.
“He plays a major role in success wherever he goes. I don’t know if he’ll return - but I want him back, and so does Antonio Lappí. I think every Sevilla fan wants him back.”
Monchi was targeted by Emery to work as the club's president of business operations.
The duo formed an effective working relationship in the three years Emery spent at Sevilla, where he won the Europa League three times in a row.
