Frank Lampard rated 'good fit' to take Premier League job after Coventry City play-off setback

Frank Lampard has been backed to swap Coventry City for a return to the Premier League this summer.

The Sky Blues boss did an impressive job last season, guiding the Sky Blues to the play-offs, where they were defeated in heart-breaking fashion by Wembley winners Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Coventry were 17th in the Sky Bet Championship when the 46-year-old was appointed last November following the surprise sacking of Mark Robins.

Such success has seen the former England international tipped to take on the vacant manager's job at Brentford.

The Bees are searching for a successor to Thomas Frank who has replaced Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur.

Lampard was sacked by Chelsea after 18 months in charge in 2021 before he returned to the club for a less-than-successful caretaker spell during the 2023/2024 season.

He also took charge at struggling Everton, but lasted less than a year before leaving in 2023 with the Toffees second from bottom of the Premier League table.

But Arsenal legend and World Cup-winner Emmanuel Petit believes Lampard has "learned a lot" from his previous management spells in the Premier League.

"Frank Lampard has done well with Coventry - they were fighting relegation when he took over and were so close to getting to Wembley," Petit told talkSport.

"His second spell at Chelsea wasn’t a great experience, but he is a young manager and is still learning. It was a good experience to be working with big egos and I think he has learned a lot.

"He has faced difficulties and I think he is a better manager now, I think he has changed as a manager and I think a move to Brentford would make a lot of sense, it could be a very good fit."

However, Lampard is not Petit's favourite to land the Brentford job. That is Keith Andrews, the former Wolves player who was a member of Frank's coaching team at the Gtech Community Arena.

Lampard still has around two years left on his contract at the Coventry Building Society Arena after signing a two-and-a-half year deal in November 2024.
