Manchester United are showing keen interest in a move for promising Braga wing-back Roger Fernandes, journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed.
The Red Devils are reportedly keeping close tabs on the ‘fantastic’ 19-year-old this summer, and have sent representatives to scout him at the U21 Euros in Slovakia.
United believe Fernandes would be a good fit for Ruben Amorim’s high intensity system, and he could be seen as a potential alternative to Geovany Quenda, who snubbed an Old Trafford move in favour of Chelsea earlier this year.
However, United may delay their pursuit of Fernandes until the foreseeable future, as a new wing-back is not necessarily a priority this summer.

Bailey, speaking to United in Focus, has revealed that there is an expectation Amad will be playing as a right wing-back for United next season, which makes their potential pursuit of Fernandes complicated this summer:
“We understand that United like Fernandes a lot and believe that he would be a good fit into the Ruben Amorim system, which means United have been keeping tabs on him over in Slovakia.
“As Fernandes plays for Portugal U21 in the European Championship, United are following him closely; however, there are doubts around whether a wing-back is on the cards this summer.
“Things have changed at United with their targets indicating Amad will be played as a right wing-back from this point forward, and in that case, I don’t think Fernandes can be seen as a priority.
“However, United are doing options and still like him, while the fact that he can play in a number of positions also appeals.”
Fernandes, who broke into Braga’s first-team squad in 2023, has enjoyed a stellar campaign in Portugal, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
The 'explosive' 19-year-old talent with 'lethal acceleration' has also been utilised in a number of different roles, including on either of the wings, as well as on the right-hand side of Braga’s midfield.
Man United are focused on bringing in reinforcements up front early in the summer window, having welcomed Matheus Cunha from Wolves as their first signing.
The Red Devils are also working on a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and remain keen on a striker signing, with Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres one to watch.
