An update has emerged on Marcus Rashford as a potential new Manchester United exit route emerges.

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan away from United with Aston Villa. The 62-cap England international went on to make 17 appearances, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

United included a £40million option to buy in that loan agreement with Villa to make the move permanent this summer. It remains to be seen if that clause will be activated as Rashford's future continues to be the subject of speculation.

Barcelona have also been linked with signing Rashford, and now a fresh update has emerged about the United star's future.

The Sun have reported that Newcastle have joined the race to snap-up Rashford this summer as they look to sign a new forward. Brighton forward Joao Pedro has previously been linked with the Magpies, and now the report states that Rashford is a player of interest to the Tyneside outfit.

The report claims that Newcastle are looking to sign Rashford with the intention of playing him as a central striker to rotate with first-choice centre forward Alexander Isak. It has not been stated, though, if a potential move would be on a permanent or loan basis.

As Rashford's long-term future remains uncertain, the United academy graduate is continuing his recovery from a hamstring injury that he suffered in the final weeks of last season.

Rashford has been training in Marbella, Spain, as he builds up his fitness with the aim of returning for pre-season training, which begins next month. Only time will tell, however, if Rashford will still be a United player when their squad returns to Carrington or if a deal with another club has been agreed.

United themselves have already been busy strengthening up their forward options with the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, while they also hope they can agree a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
