'Has been some news': Danny Murphy drops big Alexander Isak to Liverpool claim live on TalkSPORT

Danny Murphy is always bigging up Liverpool whenever he gets the chance to do so.

For most Liverpool fans, the 2024-25 Premier League title win was unexpected to say the least, especially when it was Arne Slot’s first campaign in charge of the club.

However, with the top-flight title now added to their trophy cabinet, they’ll no doubt be looking at ways to retain it next season as well as go further in the Champions League.

Some moves have already been made on this front, with Jeremie Frimpong’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen being the first of many to be executed.

Despite all these new additions, other areas of Liverpool’s team are still in need of reinforcement, especially if they want to be at their best next term.

Danny Murphy believes Liverpool would be favourites for the title if they sign Alexander Isak

Speaking live on talkSPORT, Murphy gave his thoughts on the Reds’ chance of winning the Premier League again next season and what the transfer of Alexander Isak could mean to them.

“I think so, [Liverpool favourites to win Premier League next year], I think you become favourites once you’ve won it, don’t you, and then you make the addition that they are doing,” he said.

“I know some of them aren’t over the line yet, the big thing is who comes in and who goes out.

“Let’s say, I’m hypothesising here, it probably won’t happen, but there has been some news, hasn’t there, about Isak possibly going to Liverpool as well.

“I know that sounds a bit ‘wow’ but could you imagine, and then all of a sudden there’s not a conversation, of course Liverpool are favourites then.”

Alexander Isak would be an ideal transfer for Liverpool

Everybody knows that Liverpool’s next target after Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz’s moves are confirmed will be a striker.

Darwin Nunez is almost nailed on to leave Anfield, with Luis Diaz also on the cusp of leaving, even if Barcelona have chosen to turn their attention towards Nico Williams instead.

This would leave the Reds rather thin in their attack, with only four options to cover three positions.

However, if they managed to add a striker such as Isak to the fold, they’d likely have more than enough to cover each position while also allowing players such as Federico Chiesa to earn more playing time.

Even though Liverpool were one of the most dominant teams in the league during the 2024-25 campaign, with the number of new players their title rivals are bringing in, changes need to be made.

Isak was once again in fine form for the Magpies last term and has more than proven himself to be a capable Premier League striker.

Indeed, others such as Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres have been linked with Anfield moves, but Isak’s Premier League experience is what puts him above the rest.

At the moment, it’s unclear how Liverpool’s team could look on the opening day of the season, but for now, it feels like everything is going according to plan.
