Arsenal attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri is clearly a massive fan of Chelsea star Cole Palmer based on his recent ranking of footballers.
The teenager was playing a game of Winner Stays On for the FanCode YouTube channel. When he was asked to choose between Liverpool-bound Florian Wirtz and the Blues midfielder, Nwaneri replied:
“Cole Palmer”
He was then prompted to pick between Palmer and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, and Nwaneri stuck with his fellow Englishman.
Comparing Palmer and Wirtz in the numbers
Chelsea’s No.10 scored 15 goals and provided 12 assists in 46 matches across the course of the 2024/25 campaign. Wirtz, meanwhile, managed to accrue 16 goals and 15 assists last season in one fewer appearance.

Of course, it is difficult to compare the two like for like. Many would argue that the Premier League is a stronger competition than the Bundesliga, making Palmer’s numbers more impressive.
Maresca rates the Chelsea playmaker just as highly as Nwaneri
Speaking after the 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC in the Club World Cup on Monday night, head coach Enzo Maresca lavished praise on Palmer:
“I’ve said many times, Cole is our best player, a top player, and hopefully he can continue to do the right things.”
It must be said that Palmer did struggle somewhat in the second half of last season but he came to life in the second half of the Conference League final, providing two crucial assists to help secure Maresca’s first trophy as Chelsea boss.
The Club World Cup is another excellent opportunity to secure silverware and, if Maresca’s men do go all the way in the tournament, it is very likely that Palmer will play an integral role for his team.
