“Amorim’s Favourite”–Journalist Reveals The Keeper Who Man United Want To Replace Onana With And It Isn’t Martinez

Sport TV journalist Sebastiao Sousa-Pinto claims that Man United head coach Ruben Amorim has prioritised a move for Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

There has been plenty of speculation about potential replacements for Andrea Onana and Sousa-Pinto says the Portuguese No.1 is top of Amorim’s wishlist:

“As I have been reporting in recent weeks, Diogo Costa remains on Man United’s list to take over the goal.”

“Value could be a stumbling block for the Red Devils. He has been Ruben Amorim’s favourite since January, but there are more options on the table if Onana leaves.”

Costa would not be available on the cheap

As Sousa-Pinto points out, Costa’s asking price will be an issue. He does have a €75m (£64m) release clause in his contract but that figure has put off plenty of clubs from making an offer.

Manchester City and Chelsea have contemplated moves for the keeper in the past but Porto have been reluctant to sell their number one for below his buyout fee.

For United to be in with a chance of affording Costa, you would think that a buyer would have to be found for Onana. He has been tentatively linked with a move to the Middle East but recent reports suggest he is more likely to remain at Old Trafford.

What about Man United’s interest in Emi Martinez?

There has been growing speculation regarding Aston Villa’s first-choice keeper in recent days. It has been claimed that the Argentinian international would be open to joining the Red Devils and Villa may consider selling him due to PSR.

With that being the case, Martinez would probably be available for a much lower price than Costa. A fee of around £40m may be needed to snap him up.
