Manchester City’s latest 2-0 victory against Wydad AC in the FIFA Club World Cup gave Phil Foden a chance to remind the world that he remains a top player, scoring and assisting both of his side’s goals.
Coming off the back of his most disappointing season at the Etihad Stadium, all eyes are on the 25-year-old to see whether he can rediscover the heights he hit during the 2023/2024 campaign — where the Englishman amassed 27 goals and 13 assists in all competitions.
Foden struggled with mental fatigue last season and a persisting ankle issue, which deterred his rise.
With Pep Guardiola being a fan of Rayan Cherki, the Stockport-born attacker could very well lose his place to the Frenchman as City’s starting attacking midfielder if he fails to redeem himself.
Phil Foden says he has not been offered a new Man City contract
However, Phil Foden has shown time and again throughout his time at Manchester City that he is the real deal and has the capabilities to perform at world-class standards.
While Foden is a Manchester City fan and his future does not seem uncertain, the six-time Premier League winner only has two years left on his current deal.

After Manchester City’s first win in the Club World Cup, the midfielder briefly confirmed that he is yet to be offered a new contract beyond 2027, saying via ESPN: “I’ve not heard nothing. We’ll see what happens.”
How much Phil Foden earns per week
It seems unlikely that the Sky Blues will let one of their standout players leave anytime soon.
However, stranger things have happened in football and selling a homegrown player is an incentive for Premier League clubs as such sales are considered pure profit in the books.
Currently, Foden earns wages of £225,000-a-week at Manchester City and a potential new contract could mean his salary could be bumped even further if he returns to his best.

As things stand, the England international’s focus should be on becoming a key player for Pep Guardiola again.
Guardiola believes in Foden’s redemption and judging by how well he played against Wydad AC, the silky technician looks as though he is on the right path.
