It has been revealed when Florian Wirtz’s switch to Liverpool is expected to be sealed and delivered

Widespread reports last week confirmed the Anfield club have reached an agreement to sign Wirtz for a total package valued at £116.5 million – comprising an initial £100 million payment, plus an additional £16.5 million in performance-related bonuses.

Should all incentives be met, this deal will surpass the previous British transfer record of £115 million, set by Chelsea’s acquisition of Moisés Caicedo in 2023.

The German international was on holiday following his participation in the UEFA Nations League with Germany.

Wirtz was photographed vacationing alongside new Liverpool signing Jeremie Frimpong, with the right-back sharing a sun-soaked snapshot of the pair on a luxury yacht, captioned “Vacation mode with my bro.”

The attacker had to cut short his holiday short this week to finalize his deal to Merseyside.

For Bayer Leverkusen, the sale of Wirtz marks a club-record outgoing transfer. The 22-year-old is poised to sign a five-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2030.

Wirtz is set to undergo his medical at Liverpool on Friday.

And now Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo has reported that, should the medical be passed, the German international will be confirmed as a Liverpool player tomorrow (Friday):

“Florian Wirtz is expected to officially become a Liverpool player on Friday after completing a medical to seal the £116m switch from Bayer Leverkusen,” the Merseyside journalist revealed.

“The Germany international is bound for Merseyside ahead of undergoing the routine examinations and all being well, the Reds will rubber stamp his club-record arrival ahead of the weekend.”

Fans can expect Wirtz to be fully integrated into pre-season training later this month as he begins life at the club he has long admired.

The 22-year-old is in line to join Liverpool’s pre-season training on 7 July, linking up with the rest of the squad at the start of preparations.

He is anticipated to make his first appearance for Liverpool against Preston North End on 13 July.
