Jarell Quansah and his future at Liverpool is slightly muddied with the transfer window now in full swing.
After breaking through in 2023/24, the 22-year-old found minutes hard to come by under Arne Slot this past campaign.
Quansah’s total appearances across all competitions fell from 31 in 2023–24 to 25 in 2024–25, with only 13 starts compared to 17 league appearances the previous campaign.
His Premier League minutes nearly halved, accumulating 488 minutes in 13 outings versus 1,190 minutes in 17 matches during his breakthrough season.
Arne Slot has favoured the established partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Despite public praise for his potential, Slot’s selections suggested limited trust in Quansah for key fixtures.
Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has revealed that Jarell Quansah is in talks with Bayer Leverkusen, with the Bundesliga side in need of a replacement for Jonathan Tah:
Bayer Leverkusen are in talks to sign Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah,” he reports
“Active negotiations are ongoing – but the deal would be a separate one from Florian Wirtz, if it is completed.”
“Sky Sports News previously reported Leverkusen’s interest in Quansah as the Writz deal began to progress.”
Any sale of Quansah would represent pure profit for Liverpool due to his homegrown status, having joined the club’s academy at age five.
The defender signed a new long-term contract in October 2024, extending his deal until 2030, which strengthens Liverpool’s negotiating position.
Speaking while on duty with England, Quansah remarked on his future:
“It’s definitely developing. I’m not getting too high or too low with anything.”
“I think I can take massive learnings from the three seasons I’ve had in professional football. From Bristol Rovers until now, to put perspective and look back I’m in a very good position to take the next step. “
“It comes with working hard and staying focused on what I can control.”
