Former Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher wins Ufl award

Former Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher Travis Feeney was named the UFL Sportsman of the Year, the league announced.

Feeney, who played for the St. Louis Battlehawks this season, earns the award for best sportsmanship in the league.

Feeney won the UFL Defenisve Player of the Week in Week 8 of the UFL season after he racked up 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles to knock off the Birmingham Stallions.

Feeney played for the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL in 2022, but was selected in the second round of the 2023 XFL Supplemental Draft by the Battleshawks, and he has remained on the team ever since that moment.

Feeney, 32, had 37 tackles and 2.5 sacks this season. He was a sixth-round pick by the Steelers out of Washington in the 2016 NFL Draft. Feeney never made the team’s 53-man roster, and spent the 2016 season on the practice squad.

He had one more NFL stint with the New Orleans Saints in that same year after being signed off the Steelers’ practice squad, but Feeney has not been in the NFL since 2016.

Since then, he bounced around the Canadian Football League and the spring leagues, hoping to earn one more chance back in the NFL. Either way, it has now been a decade since he was drafted, and Feeney has made a career out of football.
