Celtic hero Matt O’Riley could be on the move again this summer.
The 2025 summer transfer window is officially open, and just like in 2024, O’Riley is hitting the headlines again.
The 24-year-old left Celtic and joined Brighton and Hove Albion in a £25 million deal – a joint club-record sale for the champions of Scotland.
But O’Riley was injured on his Brighton debut, and that kept him out for several months and disrupted his season for Fabian Hurzeler’s side.

However, the Denmark international returned with a bang by scoring the winning goal against Manchester City, and despite his stop-start campaign, the transfer interest in him is still strong, and now he could be heading to Italy.

Napoli table a £25.6 million bid for Celtic hero Matt O’Riley at Brighton
Napoli won the Serie A title in 2024/25, with Scott McTominay winning the MVP of the year award, as Antonio Conte secured another trophy to his name.
And, as the champions of Italy prepare for next season, which includes returning to Europe’s elite competition, they have tabled a bid of £25.6 million for O’Riley, according to Sky Sports.
It is said ‘talks are on-going’ regarding a deal, although, he is still seen as an ‘important’ part of Brighton’s plans, but ‘they will entertain offers if Napoli meet the valuation’.

Celtic’s sell-on clause is included in O’Riley’s contract
This is where Celtic work their magic because, not only do they do very well in buying players like O’Riley for cheap (£1.5 million from MK Dons), and then sell them on for big money.
But they also do well to insert sell-on clauses, and the Bhoys have one inserted in O’Riley’s Brighton contract.
It was suggested by The National that a ‘10%’ sell-on clause was put in, so if the current bid was accepted by Brighton, then Celtic will receive a tad over £2.5 million for their former Treble-winner.
But, of course, this is just the opening offer, and with Brighton ‘entertaining offers’, then a few more millions being added on would do wonders for those in the Celtic Park boardroom.
