Veteran Chiefs Stud Has Rough 1st Day of KC Minicamp

The [Kansas City Chiefs](https://kckingdom.com/chiefs-bring-back-former-rookie-signing-another-tryout-01jy1ng4ds28) had Day 1 of mandatory minicamp take place on Tuesday and will run until Thursday before departing for break ahead of training camp.

These 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 practices are the last tune-up these guys have, and the first session wasn't the best for cornerback Trent McDuffie.

According to Chiefs insider Pete Sweeney, RB Isiah Pacheco lined up on the outside and beat McDuffie down the right sideline. That reception would have likely been a touchdown. Later in practice, WR Juju Smith-Schuster fended off McDuffie to reel in a pass.

Trent McDuffie Was Beaten Twice in Tuesday’s Practice

-----------------------------------------------------

This isn't anything to jump at, considering we're in June. Of course, fans don't want to see their top CB get beat anytime of the year, but he's earned the benefit of the doubt.

Through his first three seasons, he's been a First-Team All-Pro (2023) and Second-Team All-Pro (2024). In 43 career games, McDuffie has compiled 183 total tackles, 10 TFLs, 27 pass deflections, seven forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

For the last two seasons, he's finished with an 82 or higher overall PFF grade. In 2024, McDuffie posted an 83.1 overall grade (3rd among 222 graded cornerbacks), a 79.9 run-defense grade (18th among 222 graded cornerbacks), and an 80.6 coverage grade (9th among 222 graded cornerbacks).

The Chiefs know he's one of their building blocks going forward, but his teammates got the best of him on a few reps on Day 1 of minicamp.

Look for the Washington product to bounce back over the next few days and head into the summer with some positive momentum.

Everyone is looking to put their best foot forward. Pacheco was injured and didn't look the same upon return. Smith-Schuster is lower on the depth chart, so both guys are looking to prove themselves to the staff. And beating McDuffie is a good way to do so.
