CM: Calls from the Azzurri – how Gattuso may have aided Milan in Chiesa pursuit

Gennaro Gattuso, a legend of AC Milan, is the new Italian National Team head coach, and he may help with the mercato unintentionally.

When Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool last summer, Milan were beaten to the post. However, the interest never died. In fact, after the first few months of Chiesa rarely getting a chance, the Rossoneri were rumoured to be looking at the possibilities.

Now, with an exit likely, the links to Serie A are present again, and with the World Cup 12 months away, players need to be playing. Perhaps, within Italy.

Gattuso’s call

As Calciomercato.com reports, Gattuso has already called the attacker, who is ready to return to Italy. Thirty players were called by the former midfielder, so we can guess that these are players who are in contention for his squad.

With Chiesa not playing, though, there could have been a hint from the former Diavolo that a return to Italy would help him, both personally and internationally. It is not the first call Chiesa has had from someone with a Milan connection; after all, Allegri has already been on the phone.

The winger has already stated that conversations need to happen with his agent and Liverpool; maybe there will be more with Rossoneri-based personnel.
