During an appearance on Toni Kroos’ Einfach Mal Luppen podcast, DFB director Rudi Völler indicated that he knew that Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz was leaning toward a move to Liverpool FC — and not to Bayern Munich.
“A few months ago, he hinted to me, as did his father, that he was inclined to go to Liverpool,” Völler said (as captured by @GGFN).
This is very interesting and tears down this narrative — that Wirtz was considering a move to Bayern Munich until very late in the game.
This likely will not go over well on Säbener Straße as it makes it look like both Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge were used as pawns in this transfer game that ultimately landed both Wirtz and Bayer Leverkusen mega-deals.
