In his new commercial for the sleep supplement, the NFL star plays multiple roles
The Buffalo Bills quarterback, who has long focused on his nutrition and diet, is now turning his attention to getting a better night's sleep
Josh Allen is ready for football, red carpets and more — so long as he has a good night’s sleep!
The Buffalo Bills quarterback tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that his new partnership with sleep supplement Natrol is the real deal after he first used the product while flying home from Europe last year.
“I've tried a lot of sleep and melatonin products before, and I just feel like they didn't work for me,” Allen, 29, says. “And I slept 10 hours on [that] flight. It was nine-and-a-half, 10 hours straight. So I woke up and I couldn't believe there was only three hours left in the flight. It was such a moment for me, it was like, ‘Holy cow, this product is what I need in my life.’ ”
The reigning NFL MVP lays it all out on the football field every fall and hops from golf courses to VIP events in the offseason — all of which means Allen had frequently found himself exhausted, but still wired and unable to sleep.
“Throughout my career, my sleep has probably been the next thing that I need to really attack,” the seven-year NFL veteran says. “In the last couple of years, I've really gotten my diet down and feel like that's in a good spot, but I still found myself, 11:30, midnight still up. And it's not that I'm not trying to sleep, I'm laying down, my mind is racing a million miles a minute.”

He adds, “I feel like if I can get diet down as well as my sleep down, sky's the limit in terms of what I can do throughout the day and on the field. And ultimately that's all I'm trying to do is be the best product and best version of myself that I can be on the football field. And I feel like this truly does help me be that.”
In his partnership with the sleep aid, the athlete stars in a new commercial in which he found himself playing various versions of Josh Allen — well, sort of. “We got to do a really cool commercial,” he tells PEOPLE. “And it really did feel like I was an actor, a Hollywood actor.”
All of which Allen knows a bit about, coming on the heels of his recent nuptials with Sinners star Hailee Steinfeld.
“Every great performance starts with a great night’s sleep,” Allen says in the fun spot, which shows him transitioning from running plays on the field to stepping out of a limo onto a red carpet to … donning scrubs and operating on a patient?
“I’m kidding!” Allen jokes to the camera.

“We had all these different props,” Allen recalls. “I was on this cart, I was moving. They flipped off my hat and my doctor gown and it came together really quickly. But it was a pretty cool-looking commercial and I was very excited to be a part of it.”
The ceiling for a well-rested Allen is scary considering that he won the MVP trophy last year for a season in which he had not yet tried the supplement.
“I'm very excited,” Allen tells PEOPLE. “I am very excited to see how it pays off this season. There's times where I have felt pretty good waking up, but there are some certain games where I do wake up feeling a little depleted. My legs are a little heavy and that's due to lack of sleep. So that's why I think this product is going to be so big for me and unlocking something new in my game.”
