While the transfer window might still be open for more than a month, Manchester United could face an earlier deadline should they wish to complete a transfer for one of their reported targets.
United have already been active early on in the summer window. They completed their £62.5million transfer for Matheus Cunha earlier this month and they're working on a deal to bring Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo to the club.
As well as attacking reinforcements, there has been some speculation over possible changes in the goalkeeping department, with Andre Onana making mistakes in the season just gone.
The Manchester Evening News understands that Onana is not expected to leave the club this summer. However, that's not to stop the club still bringing a new goalkeeper in to provide competition to Onana this campaign, but any move would likely see Altay Bayindir leave the club.
The latest reports suggest that Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has "offered himself" to United, with the Argentine's future at Villa Park in doubt.
In their final home game of the season, the World Cup winner appeared emotional as he waved goodbye to fans. He then started the final match of the season, against United at Old Trafford, but was sent off in the first half after denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
Villa are thought to be "demanding" £40million for Martinez this summer. But United could, in theory, face a race against time if they decide to pursue a deal and want the best price.
It's claimed Villa still have some worries around the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSRs) after failing to qualify for the Champions League next season. Selling a first-team player would potentially go a long way to easing those concerns.
But for a deal to count towards the 2024/2025 finances, it will have to go through before the end of the current month. Any deal done in July or after will, instead, go on to next season's books.
Clubs, such as Villa, might therefore be more unwilling to cash-in on their assets at the start of a new financial year, with them having the possibility of bringing money in in other ways throughout the season. Whereas a deal done in June could, potentially, be a crucial last-minute cash injection.
Therefore, if a deal is not struck-up before the end of the month, Villa may increase the asking price for all players, including Martinez. If that is the case, it means that United have a matter of days - not weeks - to complete a deal before the PSR deadline comes around, and possibly get the best deal on the market.
