San Antonio Spurs Have Refused Massive Offers for Key Asset

The San Antonio Spurs have been swept up in trade rumors all offseason, with premier targets like Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the way.

However, Giannis has not yet asked for a trade, and the Spurs seem to have cooled on Durant, who simply does not fit their timeline.

The Spurs boast the second and 14th picks in this year's draft, and immediately after the lottery, the Spurs were included in rumors suggesting that they could flip the second pick for more assets. As the draft nears, it's become clear that Dylan Harper, the presumed second pick, is an elite prospect who the Spurs covet as a possible centerpiece of their core, next to Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle.

The Spurs have rejected numerous offers for the draft rights to Harper.

"Multiple future first-round picks have been offered in exchange for the rights to take Harper," reported ClutchPoints' Brett Seigel. "However, the Spurs haven't given any indications that they are seriously considering any offers to move out from this spot in the draft."

As the Philadelphia 76ers deal with Ace Bailey skipping his workout, the Sixers might be a team interested in moving up, upgrading to one of Bailey's college teammates, although the Spurs are yet to budge.

San Antonio entered the offseason largely expected to make a splashy move, but as the draft nears and Wembanyama returns from his retreat to the Chinese mountains, the Spurs seem more and more likely to stay the course and build organically through the draft and smaller moves.
