Marc Guehi is a target for the centre-back position for Liverpool this summer.

Earlier today (Thursday), DaveOCKOP exclusively reported that the Anfield club could make a move for the Crystal Palace defender this summer.

This hinges on whether Jarell Quansah makes the move to Bayer Leverkusen (as we reported), which is looking increasingly likely as things stand.

Guehi, who will turn 25 next month, is an England international with one year left on his contract. He captained Palace to their first-ever FA Cup triumph in May against Manchester City.

His status as a homegrown player is valuable for squad registration rules. Palace may be open to selling him for £40–45 million to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.

Now the ever-reliable Paul Joyce has confirmed our exclusive, reporting for the Times amid an update on the Quansah situation:

“Bayer Leverkusen are ready to step up their interest in Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah as a deal for Florian Wirtz nears completion.”

“Liverpool are not pushing the England Under-21 to the exit door, but hold an interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi.”

“Guéhi is liked by Liverpool, with circumstances around Quansah, and others, likely to determine whether any interest develops now, or they continue to monitor his situation given he would be available on a free transfer in 12 months.”

It’s clear that a deal for the defender will not be an easy one to broker.

Chelsea retains a 20% sell-on clause from Guehi’s £18 million move to Palace in 2021, complicating Palace’s negotiations for a higher fee.

Oliver Glasner confirmed back in April that the South London club had been in talks with the defender for a long time, so it cannot be ruled out that he stays at Selhurst Park either.

Acquiring Guehi would not only fill the gap left by Quansah but also improve Liverpool’s defensive quality and squad depth, especially with the club’s homegrown quota in mind.
