Sky Sports: Leeds closer to agreement for 'extraordinary' striker after Muniz bid rejected

Leeds United have an “advanced interest” in Lecce striker Nikola Krstovic and are reportedly moving closer to an agreement for the forward, according to Sky Sports Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio.

Daniel Farke guided Leeds back to the Premier League in his second season at the club and the Whites have wasted little time in making preparations. Striker Lukas Nmecha has moved to Elland Road on a free transfer, having departed Wolfsburg at the end of the latest season, while Leeds are close to securing the signing of Jaka Bijol from Udinese.

United will be all too aware of the fact that all six of the last promoted teams have made immediate returns to the Championship, something that they are taking active steps to avoid. While other positions are being targeted, early indications have suggested that signing a striker is high on Leeds’ list of priorities.

Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz is of interest to Leeds, the Cottagers having reportedly turned down a bid of over £30 million for the Brazilian. It would seem, however, that Leeds have another name in mind for that position should Muniz prove impossible to acquire.

Lecce's Nikola Krstovic

As per Di Marzio, Leeds are keenly interested in Nikola Krstovic, something reinforced by Sky Sports Italy. The 25-year-old, who is a physically imposing forward, has been with Lecce since 2023 and helped the club remain in Serie A last season, being directly involved in a large majority of the team’s 27 league goals across the campaign.

Despite Nmecha’s arrival, it is clear that Leeds still want to bolster their striking options. Joel Piroe won the Championship Golden Boot last season, but is an unproven striker at the highest level. Patrick Bamford, meanwhile, has struggled for fitness in recent years, while Mateo Joseph could depart Elland Road this summer.

As such, an already important signing has become pivotal for the Whites. In Krstovic, who has been dubbed "extraordinary," they would be signing a player who, in theory, should translate well to the Premier League, given his eye for goal and physical way of playing. Provided Leeds agree a reasonable price with Lecce, Krstovic could prove to be a brilliant addition for the Whites.
