Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford could be on the verge of missing out on a move to Barcelona this summer after the Catalan club took a step closer to signing another winger.
For the past few weeks and months it has been reported extensively that Rashford sees a transfer to Barcelona as a 'dream' move for him. This week, it was claimed that Rashford was willing to take a salary cut to persuade Barca that he should be signed.
However, the Catalan club were still unsure about United's asking price and were therefore hesitant to make a formal approach. Now, it seems like Rashford is the furthest he has ever been from a move to Camp Nou.
According to The Athletic, Barcelona have reached personal terms with Athletic Club winger Nico Williams and are edging closer to a formal agreement and, eventually, an official announcement. It is claimed that Barcelona do not see Williams' £50m release clause as an issue that would hinder a deal and are ready to pull the trigger on his signing.
The only hold up that could present an issue for Barca is the fact that they are currently making sure they have enough room in their salary budget to allow Williams to sign up. While the Catalan club have managed to save some money on their wage bill after allowing Clement Lenglet to leave for Atletico Madrid after terminating his contract, selling Alex Valle to Como and bringing in £6.6m in from a sell-on clause attached to Jean-Clair Todibo's move from Nice to West Ham, they still need to do more.

Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia is currently waiting to be registered after joining this week, and until they clear even more headroom for themselves, Williams is unlikely to be confirmed. Sadly for Rashford, it is expected that Barca will be able to free up their wage bill to bring in Garcia and Williams, but currently there is no indication that there will be enough room spared for the United academy graduate.
