The deal comes after Udoka guided the Rockets to a 52-30 record and their first top-2 seed in the Western Conference in seven years.
In just his second season with the team, Udoka helped the Rockets return to the playoffs for the first time since 2019–20, pushing the Golden State Warriors to seven games in the first round.
Houston’s ownership group, Tilman and Patrick Fertitta, along with GM Rafael Stone, hired Udoka in 2023 with a vision for steady growth and long-term success.
So far, they’ve gotten just that. Under Udoka, the Rockets have won 93 games in two seasons — a massive turnaround after winning only 59 total in the previous three years.
Udoka took over in Houston after being suspended and ultimately let go by the Boston Celtics in 2022-23 for multiple team rule violations. Despite the controversy, his coaching credentials remain elite: he led Boston to the NBA Finals in his lone season there.
