NBA superstar LeBron James capped off another remarkable 2024-25 campaign by averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in 70 games, ranking among the league’s top 20 in each category. At 40 years old, the 22-season veteran has continued to adapt to the times, and played a crucial role in leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 50-win record, clinching the third seed in the competitive Western Conference.
While James has earned numerous accolades for his on-court performance over the course of his illustrious career, the four-time MVP has oftentimes found himself facing backlash for his off-court commentary.

During a recent appearance on his Mind the Game podcast with Steve Nash, James triggered a firestorm that has got many fans talking. Speaking about FIBA rules, James suggested the NBA consider adopting two significant changes: shortening games to 40 minutes, like FIBA, and implementing FIBA’s goaltending rule.
He explained that a shorter game “gives it a little bit more … sense of urgency” and should be worth considering, also labelling FIBA’s goaltending rule as “exciting.”
The comments brought immediate fan backlash on social media, as critics argued that James was positioning rule changes to protect his legacy, especially as he nears the end of a storied career.
"He just wants to keep his records intact," one fan wrote.
"LeBron playing 3D chess changes it to 40 so no one can get his points record," another fan mentioned.
"It’s okay bron no one getting your scoring record," one fan said.
"Just retire dude," another advised.
"Unc tryna last longer in the league he not slick," another fan noted.
"Now that he can’t get to the rim at will like in his prime he wants fiba rules ððð," another fan mocked.
