As Raheem Sterling departs, Arsenal could add depth to the attack with move for striker who called them his 'dream' club

Arsenal are prioritising a move for a new striker this summer, but one might not be enough for Mikel Arteta.

Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have been the headline names associated with the Gunners so far this summer, as Andrea Berta – Director of Football at Arsenal – aims to bring a prolific No.9 to north London.

Gyokeres even expects to join Arsenal, with the Sweden international telling friends and family that he thinks he will swap Lisbon for London.

Regardless of whether Arsenal sign the Swede or Sesko – both of whom are valued around £60m – Mikel Arteta arguably needs another attacker as well for squad depth, and an ideal option could be available in Jonas Wind.

Arsenal should bid for Jonas Wind

It would be naive of Arsenal to think they only need one new forward.

Raheem Sterling will return to Chelsea on July 1st, and while the England international admittedly struggled on loan at Arsenal – scoring just once in 28 games – he still provided depth in the attacking department.

Coupled with the fact Arsenal aim to sell Gabriel Jesus – who remains sidelined through injury anyway – and another forward would not go amiss, leading us to think the aforementioned Wind would be perfect.

Not only does the Denmark international boast a respectable record for VfL Wolfsburg with 34 goals in 112 appearances, but he has also previously admitted that Arsenal are his “dream destination”.

Wind told BuliNews back in September 2022: “If we look into the future, Arsenal would be a dream destination for me, as it has always been my favourite club. In general, I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and it would be exciting to play there.”

The Dane is also at an attractive age for Arteta in terms of what the Spaniard may want in a new signing, having turned 26 in February.

Wind scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions last season, including a late winner against Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal.

Arsenal could sign Jonas Wind for minimal fee

Furthermore, Wind only has 12 months remaining on his contract with VfL Wolfsburg, so a low bid from Arsenal could well be enough to sign the man born in Hvidovre – who would also presumably push for the transfer given his love of the Gunners.

Arsenal have already agreed to sign Martin Zubimendi in a £50m move from Real Sociedad, and with either Sesko or Gyokeres set to cost around £60m – as aforesaid – money left over to sign another attacker who can replace Sterling and Jesus is sure to be tight.

Therefore, a cheap deal like this may have to be seriously considered by Arteta, and if it comes to that, agreeing personal terms with Wind seems like it could be pretty simple based on what he said about Arsenal in 2022.
