Three teams reportedly ‘one or two’ pieces away from completing Kevin Durant trade

While the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder are currently busy pursuing championship rings, arguably the biggest story around the NBA is the ongoing Kevin Durant trade negotiations. After just three years with the Phoenix Suns, Durant is expected to be traded to his fifth team in the next few weeks, if not days.

According to ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania, the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves may only be just one or two pieces away from completing a Durant trade. Yet, no one has met the Suns’ asking price quite yet, and now one team is telling Charania the whole charade is a “game of chicken” right now.

“The Suns have a price threshold that they want met in a trade for Kevin Durant and I had one team tell me today it’s a game of chicken right now.. The Rockets, Heat, and Timberwolves are literally one or two pieces away from getting a deal done.”

The Rockets and Heat are reportedly on Durant’s preferred list of landing spots, along with the San Antonio Spurs, who aren’t mentioned here. Interestingly enough, Durant’s first choice would be to land with the Spurs if he had things his way. They’re the only team mentioned here that didn’t make a postseason appearance this year, yet Durant could help fix things in a hurry.

Whether the Suns find someone willing to meet their asking price remains to be seen, but there’s plenty of time to figure things out. Eventually, one team will fall in love with the idea of adding a future Hall of Famer to their organization, no matter what it costs.
