It is just a matter of time before Florian Wirtz is officially unveiled a new Liverpool player.

News about the German international’s move to Liverpool has been one of the most trending stories in the UK and Germany for well over a month now.

The Reds beat the likes of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Manchester City to the 22-year-old, who has been the best player in Germany over the last two seasons.

Liverpool fans first became aware of the Reds’ interest in Wirtz around May, after reports emerged that he and his family had travelled to the UK to speak with interested Premier League clubs.

At the time, it was thought that Manchester City were the main club he had travelled to the UK to speak with. But reports soon emerged that he had met with the Reds and was impressed by Arne Slot.

Fast forward a few weeks, Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Wirtz, secured an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for a British record and the 22-year-old is now set for his medical.

Earlier on Thursday, video made available by Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg showed Wirtz and his family leaving Cologne Germany for the UK for his medical.

The midfielder has now arrived in the UK, with The Independent revealing that “he landed at Manchester Airport this afternoon, from where he will travel to Merseyside to finalise a deal, with a medical penned in for Friday.”

Depending on who one believes, Liverpool will sign Wirtz for a total package valued at £116.5 million, comprising an initial £100 million payment, plus an additional £16.5 million in performance-related bonuses.

The attacker had to cut short his holiday this week to finalise his deal to Merseyside.
