'Wow' - Danny Murphy stunned after hearing who Liverpool could sign after Wirtz and Kerkez

Pundit and former midfielder Danny Murphy would be stunned if Liverpool managed to add Alexander Isak to their attack, according to Geordie Boot Boys.

Many wondered how Liverpool would fare when the 2024/25 season began, given it was their first campaign without Jurgen Klopp at the helm for almost a decade. Arne Slot was chosen to replace the German and while he had done well with Feyenoord, there were questions over how well Slot would adapt to the Premier League.

Fast-forward a year and the Dutchman has completed his first campaign at Anfield, ending the season as a Premier League champion. Liverpool stormed their way to their second-ever title in the modern English top flight, winning the silverware with four games to spare in a campaign that also saw the Reds reach the Carabao Cup final.

Liverpool have wasted little time in preparing for their title defence. Jeremie Frimpong has joined the club as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold and his Leverkusen teammate, Florian Wirtz, is drawing ever closer to signing. Not only that, but Liverpool are pursuing a deal for Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth to bolster their left-hand side.

The Reds are, evidently, far from finished in the transfer market and could yet make further additions to their attack.

‘Can You Imagine?’

Murphy reacts to potential Liverpool signing

A former Liverpool midfielder, Danny Murphy is now often seen as a pundit. Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy discussed Wirtz’s impending switch to Liverpool and just how stunned he would be if Liverpool were able to secure another attacking signing, saying:

“The big thing (at Liverpool) is who comes in and who goes out. I’m hypothesising here and it probably won’t happen, but there has been some news about (Alexander) Isak possibly going to Liverpool. I know that sounds a bit ‘wow,’ but can you imagine? All of a sudden, of course, Liverpool are favourites.”

Alexander Isak has been simply sublime for Newcastle United since joining the Magpies from Real Sociedad. The Swede has established himself as one of the most lethal strikers, not just in the Premier League, but in world football, enjoying another stellar year in the most recent campaign.

Isak helped Newcastle both win the Carabao Cup and qualify for the Champions League, with the latter achievement in particular doing wonders for Newcastle’s negotiating position in talks over Isak’s future. Liverpool would reportedly be interested in bringing Isak to Anfield if it was possible.

As Murphy stated, adding Isak to an attack that already includes the likes of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and for the coming season, Florian Wirtz, would be an immense statement to the wider top flight from Liverpool that their title is one they aim to defend for years.
