Manchester United’s failure to secure European prize money following their Europa League final loss to Tottenham has added further urgency to their summer rebuild.

With limited resources and multiple positions needing reinforcements, United are under pressure to raise significant funds through player sales.

Numerous stars face uncertain futures.

Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund are few of several names for instance.

Resolving their futures quickly is vital, with United determined to begin pre-season with a clear structure and new direction in place.

One player who will almost certainly depart is Marcus Rashford.

The Englishman has no future at Old Trafford under Amorim and is eager to take on a new challenge.

One club who had been linked to sign him was Newcastle United.

However according to ChronicleLive, the move has now been ruled out due to the Magpies’ strict wage structure.

Newcastle had already backed away from a move for Bryan Mbeumo over financial concerns, and Rashford’s salary demands fall well outside their limits.

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

He went on to net four goals in 17 appearances and impressed before injury cut his campaign short.

Villa had the option to buy him permanently for £40 million.

However after failing to qualify for the Champions League, they have opted not to activate the clause.

Despite paying no loan fee, Villa did cover 75% of Rashford’s £350,000-a-week wages, giving United some short-term financial relief.

As things stand, United will continue looking for a buyer for Rashford as they work to free up funds and reduce their bloated wage bill ahead of the 2025/26 season.

It is believed that Rashford is waiting for Barcelona to come calling.

However, the Catalans are nearing the deal to sign Nico Williams instead.
