It’s well-known that the Phoenix Suns have been trying to trade Kevin Durant this offseason. Several reports have detailed the situation for the past couple of months.
Yet, the Suns haven’t found an offer to their liking, and one NBA insider, John Hollinger, believes the team doesn’t know what to do anymore.
“I think this is just a classic Phoenix s— show. They thought they were gonna get stronger offers than they’re getting, and now they don’t really know what to do.”

Hollinger went on to state that the Suns don’t have to trade Durant and that keeping him remains an option for the team. Of course, the Suns don’t have any obligation to trade Durant if they don’t want to.
“I think it’s an option. They’re not required to. The only thing is he has one year left on his deal — he can be a free agent after the year — so he has some leverage. For Phoenix to walk away with nothing from KD is a tough one. They still have this idea that they can probably contend for something, I guess? I don’t know how realistic they are at this point. Obviously they should tear it down, but it doesn’t seem like that’s what they’re doing.”
Hollinger, continued
Other teams may be calling Phoenix’s bluff, as no one actually expects the Suns to hold onto Durant this offseason. That’s not what the future first-ballot Hall of Famer wants, and recruiting other star talent seems improbable without some sort of promise that Durant wants to stick around.
Durant’s preferred list of suitors reportedly includes the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs. Despite the Minnesota Timberwolves having submitted an offer, Durant got involved and vetoed it because he’d prefer to land with the Spurs as his first choice. Other teams, such as the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Clippers, have also expressed an interest in Durant too.
