Jamie Carragher already told Liverpool his thoughts on Marc Guehi transfer fee

Liverpool has already had a busy start to the summer but head coach Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes still have more work to do — and plenty of time to agree more deals.

Florian Wirtz is likely to be the next player confirmed as an incoming. Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is another who is wanted, while there are several other major decisions that will need making over the course of the next few weeks, with pre-season slated to begin in under a month.

But there will be departures too. And with Jarell Quansah potentially on the way out of Liverpool amid interest from Bayer Leverkusen, a replacement might well be needed.

According to The Times, Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is one option under consideration. Homegrown and with Premier League experience, he certainly ticks a couple of boxes, but the price would have to be right.

Newcastle United had four bids for Guehi rejected by Crystal Palace last summer. The final one was worth $87 million (£65 million), with the South London side holding out for $94 million (£70 million).

The Magpies moved away from the deal at that point. And a year later, he still hasn't signed a new contract at Selhurst Park, meaning Guehi now only has 12 months remaining on his existing terms.

"I think he is a really good player," Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher said at the time. Guehi had just been impressing for England at the European Championship in Germany.

"I wouldn’t pay £70 million for him," Carragher continued. "I think that’s probably a big decision the club have got to make, whether they look somewhere else and someone cheaper because that is top dollar, that."

With only one year left on his contract, Crystal Palace is in a considerably weaker bargaining position this time around. And Liverpool, presumably, would have a greater pull than Newcastle for the player himself, should he need to push for the move.

Quansah only made four Premier League starts for Liverpool under Slot last season. Two of those came after the title had already been confirmed, one was at right-back, and in the other, he was hooked at half-time.

He remains very highly rated, though, and at 22, still has a lot of room for further development. Quansah is currently away with England at the U21 European Championship.

The Three Lions will play Spain in the quarter-finals on Saturday. As well as Quansah, Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton are also there from Liverpool, with each potentially set to move on this summer.

Liverpool.com says: Losing Quansah wouldn't be ideal, but Guehi, for the right price, would be a good replacement. Liverpool will have to think about its homegrown slots if Quansah and Elliott both move on.
