Everton are plotting a move to sign Fenerbahce midfielder Fred as David Moyes is keen to add numbers to his squad this summer.
That is according to former Man United and West Ham scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 32-year-old is on a long list of targets for Moyes’ side.
However, the move would come as a “shock” should it take place as the Toffees are eyeing alternative targets for the position.
Football Insider revealed on 3 June that Everton want to sign new midfielders this summer after they completed a £12.6million deal to sign Charly Alcaraz.
Fred, who left Man United in favour of a move to Turkey in 2023, is believed to be interested in a return to the Premier League should the opportunity arise.
Meanwhile, Moyes is assessing a number of experienced options to add to his squad amid links with moves for the likes of Kyle Walker and Vladimir Coufal.

Everton eye shock Fred signing after Doucoure and Gueye latest
Abdoulaye Doucoure is likely to leave Everton upon the expiry of his contract, while Idrissa Gueye remains in talks but could follow his teammate out of the door.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Moyes is considering signing Fred among a list of alternative targets.
“Everton want to sign a new midfielder,” he told Football Insider.
“Fred is one who has been mentioned, but there are a load of options they’ll have looked at.
“Man United decided he wasn’t good enough, but they also thought that about Scott McTominay and look at what he’s been able to do.
“Fred did a better job than a lot of people give him credit for at United, by the way.
“Honestly, it would be a shock if it happened.
“When people have been in the Premier League and go to play somewhere like Turkey, it’s not easy for them to make the step up again.
“Everton won’t pay a big fee for him, they’ll only do it at a price that suits them.
“But if they find they’re struggling to attract their top targets, he could be one they go for.”

Kyle Walker update emerges after Man City exit claim
Moyes is aiming to bring in a number of players this summer as his squad needs improving in multiple positions, especially at right-back.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 16 June that Walker is a key target for Everton as a number of Premier League clubs are eyeing the Man City defender.
While there are concerns about his abilities to perform consistently at this level, there is a feeling that Moyes’ style of play would suit him at this stage of his career.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 15 June that Walker has “no way back” at Man City after falling out with Pep Guardiola during the January transfer window.
