Transfer links between Manchester United and Aston Villa have been a regular thing now since winter transfer window.

The Villains entered a short-term loan for Marcus Rashford, the the United attacker thriving under Unai Emery.

The move was a chance for Rashford to reignite his career after being dropped by Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Despite regular strong performances at Villa Park and reclaiming his spot in the England national team, Villa opted against triggering their optional buy clause for £40 million.

Without Champions League football, Rashford’s hefty £325,000 per week salary was too much for Villa seeing them pull out of a permanent move.

However, this didn’t end the transfer talks between the two clubs as United have since marked Emiliano Martinez as a key target to upgrade from Andre Onana as the first-choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

The Argentina international is highly proven in the Premier League, keeping with the new recruitment strategy of The Red Devils, which minimises risk.

It’s recently been reported that Martinez is not only open to a move to United, but has offered himself to the club, boosting United’s pursuit of the star.

It was reported this morning that formal talks have begun between The Red Devils and Martinez, starting to outline a potential move.

Now, Argentinian journalist Uriel Iugt has reported that talks between the two clubs are due to begin in the next few days.

With United contacting both Emiliano Martinez and Aston Villa, their intent is clear that they are keen to seal the deal for the World Cup winner as soon as possible.

This shows a major shift from United who previously suggested that Onana would be remaining at Old Trafford, however with Martinez seemingly in bound, the Cameroon international’s place in the squad could be in doubt.
